Sue is Head of our Costs Management team.
Would budgets work better if they were prepared after directions? asks Sue Fox
Sue Fox heads our costs management service; she has an impressive background, having worked at international firms such as Addleshaw Goddard and DWF, working as a legal costs professional for over 20 years.
“I specialise in Costs Management, having gained extensive knowledge and experience of preparing precedent H costs budgets since the introduction of the pilot scheme on 2012. In addition to this experience, I have previously prepared high value estimates of costs for clients, which follow a similar process to costs budgeting. During that time, I have prepared well in excess of 1,000 precedent H costs budgets. I have considerable experience preparing budgets for large scale commercial litigation cases, requiring multi-million pound costs budgets and I regularly produce substantial, high value budgets.
I take a pragmatic and commercial approach to the negotiation of budgets, ensuring that the client is kept informed throughout the whole process, starting from the preparation of the budget and concluding with the completion of the budget discussion report. It is important that my clients experience a seamless and cohesive service, building on a partnership approach to costs management. This service includes attending the costs management hearing.
A recognised expert in my field, I regularly write for the Litigation Funding magazine (sister publication to the Law Society Gazette) and I have contributed to several books, including the ‘Costs Law: A Practitioner’s Guide’ and ‘The Law Society’s Contentious Probate Handbook’. I feature on Thomson Reuter’s PLC blog and regularly write for our Clarion legal costs blog.

Sue’s ability as a legal costs professional is exceptional and she always ensures she has time to fit in the needs of our firm, whilst ensuring all her other responsibilities are met. She is always contactable by phone or email for advice and she has also provided some very detailed guidance and support during staff training. Sue’s Budgeting drafting skills are impeccable and she is also a very confident and persuasive advocate when the discussion of costs budgeting arises at a CCMC. I would highly recommend Clarion and Sue to any person who was looking for a highly capable and experienced legal costs professional.Head of Costs
