Congratulations to Ilkley Brewey who won the Entrepreneur of the Year award at the 2012 Dalesman Awards.
The 2012 Entrepreneur of the Year Award, sponsored by Clarion, went to the newly formed Ilkley Brewery. Stewart Ross and Chris Ives started their own micro brewery just three years ago – now it has gained national recognition. They have reestablished a brewery in Ilkley after a gap of nearly 100 years, created jobs in the town and helped spread the word about this fabulous area.
Their beers are now sold in more than a dozen local pubs as well as from an on-line shop. This year their Save the Pub Beer was put on tap in the House of Commons Strangers' Bar to highlight the problems faced by local pubs throughout the country.
The annual awards, held on Sunday 17 June, celebrate Yorkshire's finest.
Host Ian McMillan was presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Despite national recognition as a poet, author and broadcaster Ian has remained loyal to Yorkshire and in particular his home village of Darfield near Barnsley.
Welcome to Yorkshire chief executive, Gary Verity, was named Yorkshireman of the Year for his outstanding charity work.
