Earlier this month (3 September), 19 professional women from Yorkshire took part in the first Ladies Golf Day of its kind in aid of St Gemma’s Hospice in Leeds which was sponsored by legal firm Clarion and held in association with networking organisation Forward Ladies .

Held at Cookridge Hall, the 18 hole ladies’ texas scramble four ball competition was won by a team that included Elise Daley and Julia Pearson of Clarion and their guests Elaine Wilkinson from Lawrence Scoffield and Amanda Waterhouse from Baker Tilly.  Teams from Grant Thornton and Cardale Asset Management and their clients took second and third places respectively.  Other teams included players from Yorkshire Investment Group and Moulds & Co Accountants.

“It was a fantastic day which, as well as supporting a worthy charity, gave the ladies an opportunity to improve their golf skills and to enjoy some networking,” explained Julia Pearson, founder of the Leeds Ladies Golf Group and an associate at legal firm, Clarion.

“This first ladies’ golf day follows the success of our Clarion’s ladies golf networking group, now in its second year and comprising 28 members.  If you are a golfing enthusiast or know of any keen lady golfers, please do get in touch.”

Etta Cohen, the original Forward Lady, said: “We run approximately 300 events a year covering social events, development and training and inspirational speakers.  We all know that as much business is done on the golf course as off it, and Forward Ladies is delighted that not only did the ladies raise a great deal of money for St Gemma’s but they also had a good day out, as well as the opportunity to network with like-minded women.”

The event raised £365 which was donated to St Gemma’s Hospice in Moortown which provides specialist medical and nursing care for local people with life threatening illnesses, predominantly cancer, and support for their families too.
