Managing Partner runs, swims and cycles 211K for Yorkshire Charities

Mark Burns, managing partner, has taken on an arduous challenge – he plans to complete ten major races in the region by the end of the year in aid of his favourite charities.

Mark’s ‘decathlon’ will result in him having run 127K, cycled 80K and swum 4.5K in aid of his three chosen charities The Spinal Injury Project of the UK Stem Cell Foundation (UKSCF); the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (Leeds Teaching Hospitals Charity Foundation) and Martin House Hospice for Children and Young People.

Having already undertaken his first event, the Ashbourne duathlon last month, Mark is preparing for the 10K Ilkley Trail Race at the end of May before going on to compete in the Great North Swim in Lake Windemere in June followed by Jane Tomlinson’s Leeds 10K the following day.  He will also be participating in some of the region’s best known running events such as the Leeds Triathlon, the Leeds Abbey Dash, the Yorkshire Three Peaks and the Great North Run.  In addition, Mark will be undertaking the more unusual challenge of taking part in the Men’s Health Survival of the Fittest Nottingham – a 10K run with ten gruelling obstacles!

“This decathlon has grown out of my regular participation in the Corporate Challenge of the Leeds 10K which Clarion is sponsoring for the sixth year.  Having decided to raise money for the firm’s two chosen charities, UKSCF and the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, as part of Clarion’s Leeds 10K team and having also undertaken to support Martin House by taking part in the Leeds Triathlon, I thought I should combine my fundraising activities,” explained Mark.

“Having come up with this foolhardy idea, I even more foolishly decided to follow through with it.  Thanks so much to everyone who has already pledged their support –it’s a great chance for friends, colleagues and clients to watch me go through agony, all in a good cause.”
