Andrew McAulay, who trained with Clarion and heads its costs and litigation funding team, has been promoted to partner.
Andrew has worked in legal costs claims for 13 years having joined Clarion as a trainee law costs draftsman in 2001. In 2008 he became head of costs and litigation funding at the firm, leading its six-strong team on a portfolio of nationwide clients. Initially providing this specialist service internally at Clarion, Andrew now works with over 50 law firms across the UK. He has particular expertise in solicitor/own client costs disputes, court of protection costs, litigation funding and high value commercial litigation and personal injury costs.
“Over the last five years, Andrew has taken an internal non-profit making team and turned it into one of the most profitable teams in the practice and he has ambitious plans for its continued growth,” commented Mark Burns, managing partner at Clarion.
“Having been a major part of Clarion’s commercial success as a service department, ensuring we maximised our costs recovery from a variety of sources, the team has gone on to offer this valuable service to any firm that needs their help. They are responsive and, as part of a firm, they are aware how important it is for cash flow for costs work not to be delayed.
“Andrew has helped to establish a reputation for the practice as one of the best in the region; as well as his impressive technical knowledge, he is relied on by clients to always provide honest and commercial advice. His promotion is a well-deserved recognition of the huge contribution he has made to our success and the outstanding service his team provides in this niche area. ”
In 2013, Andrew obtained the specialist Costs Lawyer qualification awarded by the CLSB (Costs Lawyer Standards Board).
The costs and litigation funding team deals with all areas of legal costs, acting for receiving and paying parties. It specialises in high value claims for Costs, costs budgeting, Court of Protection costs and solicitor/own client costs disputes.
