Coast to Coast: Day One – Morecambe to Burnsall
Morecambe to Burnsall.......
The day started at 6am with a fruitless bike rack wrestle which ended in us taking a third car to the starting point. All our cyclists came prepared in their swanky new branded lycra tops and shorts. After a short Starbucks stop and the RSM Tenon breakdown, we all finally made it to the seaside resort of Morecambe.
You will see from our team photo that the weather wasn’t on our side, but nevertheless spirits were high and the team set off on their 170 mile challenge with smiles on their faces and blissful ignorance of what lay before them. After 16 miles, Team RSM Tenon/ Clarion made a pit stop at Bridge House Farm in Wray for some scones and chocolate treats and had a trip to the adventure playground!
After leaving Wray, the cyclists were hit by torrential rain, but they battled on and made it Settle for lunch and to replenish their cycling equipment supplies after 2 of the team members having suffered from multiple punctures during the downpour.
Now came THE HILL. Yes it was the one they had all been training for! Having asked one of the team members, Alice Pratt to describe the hill they faced leaving Settle, the only response she gave was “hell on earth”. Despite the hill’s best efforts, they were not defeated and rode on to The Angel at Hetton for a well deserved pint – under the false impression that it was then all down hill to Burnsall.
Having completed the final stretch, the team made it to The Red Lion for 5pm and enjoyed a nice evening meal.
The team still have 2 days to go and would ask for your continued support and donations. If you would like to donate to The Being Bel Trust which we are riding for, please contact Jenny Rennocks by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
Many thanks and we will keep you posted!
