The Clarion Team has welcomed Lord Mayor Councillor Graham Latty and the Lady Mayoress to its Queen Street offices. The visit was part of the annual ‘Just One Day’ event (Friday 17 May) which sees local communities, businesses and organisations come together to raise awareness and support fundraising for the Lord Mayor’s chosen charity which, this year, is St Gemma’s Hospice - which is also Clarion’s nominated charity for 2019.
This year, colleagues at the Leeds law firm have been organising a range of fundraising activities in aid of St Gemma’s, including a charity bake sale and a raffle to celebrate ‘Just One Day’. Already the 193 strong Clarion team has raised over £3,879 for the Moortown hospice, almost half of the £10,000 it has pledged over the next 18 months.
Lindsay Texel, partner in Clarion’s Real Estate Team who is leading the firm’s fund-raising initiative, said: “As charity partner for St Gemma's Hospice, Clarion was proud to support and raise awareness of the Lord Mayor's ‘Just One Day’ fundraising initiative in support of the hospice.
“We’re now six months into raising funds for this life-changing local charity and the coming months will see our intrepid colleagues taking on a number of activities including The Three Peaks, skydiving, running the Leeds 10k and Tough Mudder challenges, to name but a few.”
The biggest hospice in Yorkshire and one of the largest in the UK, St Gemma’s Hospice has long-established links with Clarion.
St Gemma's Hospice provides expert care and support for local people with life-limiting illnesses and last year celebrated its 40th anniversary. As well as providing care to patients and their carers in the hospice’s 32 bed in-patient unit and through the St Gemma’s community team, the charity also offers day services including a day hospice and out-patient department. In the year 2017/18, the hospice received 1313 patient referrals and handled 538 in-patient admissions and the St Gemma’s community team of nurses and doctors made over 5,682 visits to patients in their own homes.
