Students from across Leeds Law School have taken part in the Clarion Commercial Challenge.  Sponsored by Leeds legal firm Clarion, the competition is designed to test the students' ability to deal with a number of commercial and legal issues affecting a fictitious company.

The first stage involved students submitting a letter of advice to the company, focusing on two issues, namely liquidity/cash flow and intellectual property matters.  From these entries, a shortlist of the most outstanding legal letters was chosen and these students were invited to the second stage.

The successful students were: Hanna Sargesson and Hannah Ross - LLB Law year 3; Ryan Adams and Jade King - LLB Law year 2; Amy Cotter and Stephanie Osbourne - Legal Practice Course; Adam Hutton and Rachel Metcalfe - Legal Practice Course; and Laura Walsh and Shaida Khan - Legal Practice Course.

The pairs of students presented their advice to a panel of judges (representing the company) in front of an audience of friends, family and colleagues.

The panel of judges consisted of Roger Hutton, partner of Clarion, David Jones, Regional Managing Director of Absolute Invoice Finance, and Sarah Ruston, Legal Director of Squirrel Storage Limited in Leeds.

Clarion praised all of the students for their excellent advice and the rigorous way they defended their choices.  After a difficult decision the winners were announced as Amy Cotter and Stephanie Osbourne, who have won a work placement with Clarion.
