Congratulations to Steve Milner and his team of 10 cyclists in their charity challenge – cycling 280 miles from Leeds to Paris in just three days.
We were delighted to sponsor a team of 10 cyclists in their latest charity challenge – this year cycling 280 miles from Leeds to Paris in just three days. The team succeeded in raising over £6,000 for Leeds General Infirmary Paediatric Intensive Care Unit.
Timed to coincide with the conclusion of the final stage of the 100th Tour de France last weekend, the intrepid team comprised Steve Milner, partner of ABR Solicitors, and nine friends: Adam Boocock; Simon Longfellow; Paul Crabtree; Matthew Lee; Louise Lee; Sara Borne; Kevin Judd; Scott Thomson; and Adrian McCrory, plus a two-man support crew of Kevin Hartley and Andrew Johnson.
“My wife and I lost our little boy Adam back in 2009 after he choked on some food at nursery. Since then we have undertaken a number of fundraising events in his memory, raising over £15,000 for Leeds General Infirmary Paediatric Intensive Care Unit where Adam was cared for in his last days, and for Huddersfield/Calderdale Hospital Special Care Baby Unit, who cared for him at birth,” explains Steve Milner, partner at ABR Solicitors.
“The intensity of the challenges has been stepped up each year, from taking on the Yorkshire Three Peaks in 2011 to last year's successful national Three Peaks challenge. This year, we decided to go a step, or rather a pedal or two, further as the region prepares to host the Tour de France Grand Depart in 2014.”
The team set off from Leeds on 18 July, cycling 73 miles to Hull to catch the overnight ferry to Zeebrugge before covering a gruelling 118 miles on day two from Zeebrugge to Peronne in Northern France. They then headed 98 miles south on the third day, cycling into Paris in time to see the professionals completing Le Tour the following day on the Champs Elysees.
“I’d like to thank everyone who has contributed, particularly the participants and our generous corporate sponsors, including Clarion, Henderson Global, Bridge Estates and Predator Nutrition, as well as colleagues, clients and suppliers,” comments Steve. “After such a gruelling challenge this year, it’s difficult to know how we can surpass it next year!”
