Clarion’s private client team has welcomed a call from the Legal Services Board (LSB) for all professional will-writers to be regulated.
“It is horrifying that research from the LSB shows that 20% of wills contain mistakes – cases have even been uncovered where names have been omitted from paperwork! At the moment, anyone can set up a will-writing service, but we agree that providers must be regulated in order to protect the public, and this includes regulated solicitors being subjected to closer inspection.
“Unfortunately, mistakes tend to come to light only when it is too late and the grieving family is faced with coping with a legal muddle at a very traumatic time.”
It is expected that the Government will make a decision on the LSB’s recommendations by the end of the year.
