Clarion celebrates becoming a Living Wage Employer’

In the midst of Living Wage week 2018, Clarion is delighted to announce its new accreditation as a Living Wage Employer.

We’re really proud to have stepped up and stood behind what we believe in – paying people a fair day’s wage for a hard day’s work.

Currently, the National Living Wage, set by the Government, is £7.83 an hour for employees over 25 years old. It’s calculated according to median earnings, rather than based on what staff and their families need to live.

Instead, Clarion has pledged to pay employees at least the Real Living Wage, as set by the Living Wage Foundation, which is calculated according to the cost of living and what people actually need to make ends meet. It’s currently set at £9.00 an hour nationally, or £10.55 an hour in London, reflecting the higher costs of transport, childcare and housing there.

The Living Wage acts as a voluntary benchmark for employers wanting to ensure their employees are paid a wage that provides them with enough to live on. We’ve joined over 4,000 other employers, including IKEA and Nestle, who are choosing to do more than the minimum the Government requires to look after their people.

This reflects Clarion’s strong commitment to our employees and our reputation as a great employer. We believe that we can only do well by our clients by doing the best for our employees, which is why we put them at the centre of everything we do.

We’re delighted that Clarion has joined the growing number of responsible businesses paying a Living Wage to their people. We felt it was the right thing to do for us as a business and for the entire team of people working hard within Clarion. This includes not just our direct employees, but also on-site, third-party staff who work for some of our suppliers. We are particularly pleased that we are one of only eight law firms in the Yorkshire region to have gained this accreditation.
