Andrew McAulay, manager of costs and litigation funding at Clarion, has obtained the specialist Costs Lawyer qualification awarded by the CLSB (Costs Lawyer Standards Board).
Andrew undertook a three year course and passed two examinations in order to become a lawyer under the Legal Services Act 2007, gaining a Costs Lawyer practicing certificate regulated by the CLSB.
Andrew has worked in legal costs for 12 years, initially joining Clarion as a trainee law costs draftsman in 2001. In 2008 he became head of costs and litigation funding at the firm leading its six-strong team on a portfolio of nationwide clients.
“The industry has largely been unregulated for many years although there has been a push towards greater regulation since 2008,” explains Simon Young, partner in Clarion’s dispute resolution and litigation practice. “Gaining a practicing certificate as a costs lawyer demonstrates a high level of training, giving clients peace of mind knowing that they are working with an expert in this specialist field.
“This is great news for our costs and litigation funding team, adding to its reputation as one of the best in the region and supporting its continued growth.”
The costs and litigation funding team deal with all areas of legal costs, acting for receiving and paying parties. They specialise in high value claims for court costs, Budgeting Court of Protection costs and solicitor/own client costs disputes.
