Court of Protection Masterclass

We are delighted to invite you to attend our Masterclass held specifically for Court of Protection  practitioners in order to address the issues faced by professional Deputies on a day to day basis.

A panel of experts in the field will be on hand to share their knowledge and experience.

Andrew McAulay, Partner and Costs Lawyer at Clarion Solicitors

Andrew will look at costs in the Court of Protection providing some practical hints and tips for
professional Deputies, including what you need to know about proportionality, how to keep the best file of evidence and what is on the Court’s radar.

Arianna Kelly, Barrister at Kings Chambers

Arianna will talk about The Participation of "P" in the Court of Protection. When making any decision on behalf of another person, ensuring that the person is able to participate in that  process and have his or her voice clearly heard is of paramount importance.

Katie Wilson, Chartered Financial Planner and Lauren Charnley, Investment Manager at Tilney

Katie and Lauren will discuss the imminent change in methodology for calculating the discount rate, describe how it conflicts with the requirements of the Mental Capacity Act and explain how to manage that conflict.

Ria Baxendale, Head of Supervision & Investigation Services at the Office of the Public Guardian

Ria will provide an overview of what activities OPG has planned for the coming year, with regards to improving its services for its users, including an update on our Digital Deputyship programme for professionals.

Clare will share case studies regarding the unique clients she works with and discuss the knowledge and skills needed to help P, particularly looking at clients who are living with Dementia.

Heather will talk about Direct Employment, including understanding the risks and challenges and working collaboratively to get the best outcome for the client.
