The new regulations regarding converting a civil partnership formally come into force on 10 December, which is when the first conversions can take place.
The first step for couples wishing to convert their civil partnership is to attend at a register office to verify their identities and details of the civil partnership.
There are special procedures for specific parties (for example, those who are housebound or seriously ill) and it may be that these apply in your circumstances.
It will be interesting to review the statistics next year and further into the future, when the number of conversions can be assessed and measured against the number of new civil partnerships. Some commentators believe new civil partnerships will effectively become extinct, whilst others believe that whilst the numbers will go down, many parties will still opt to enter into a civil partnership until religious organisations change their stance. Only time will tell!
