Your Training

Trainee Experience

Ryan Millmore, Partner, Corporate Recovery

I joined the Firm as a trainee solicitor in September 1998 having studied law at University College London followed by the LPC at the College of Law York.

When looking for a training contract I was especially keen to join a medium sized firm outside of London with a strong reputation and a progressive attitude. I felt that by joining a medium sized firm that I would get a far greater level of exposure to both clients and work generally. Clarion Solicitors LLP fitted the bill.

The first twelve months of my training contract were spent doing a mix of matrimonial and commercial litigation which included running client meetings, undertaking advocacy and running my own small caseload. For the next twelve months I was responsible for running a significant litigation caseload for a major client of the practice as well as increasingly moving my own practice focus towards corporate recovery. Whilst my training contract was challenging I was always supported through the process and found it an enjoyable experience.

As well as been allowed to have a hands on role with client matters at an early stage I was encouraged to market and network to develop my own and the firm's client following. This was especially beneficial and I was rewarded for my hard work by being promoted to senior associate in April 2004 and partner in April 2006.

In summary, the work is both challenging and rewarding with solicitors in the firm being encouraged to develop their 'non-legal' skills, such as marketing and networking, from an early stage.
