Business succession planning
Succession planning is one of the most important decisions for any business. Many private businesses are owned jointly with others, whether that is through a partnership or in a company as a shareholder. Our private client team ensures that through effective planning, a surviving business owner can acquire the shares from the estate of a deceased business owner. This will not only ensure the family of that person receives the value of those shares and maximises of any relief to inheritance tax (IHT), but also ensures that the remaining owners retain control of the business and can ensure it survives the loss of one of its key players.
We will also review any payments that could be made on death such as death in service, pension and insurance to ensure that these are protected from possible IHT by setting up bespoke lifetime trusts known as ‘pilot trusts' for the benefit of chosen beneficiaries.
We offer a package of documents to protect your position, that of your family and the business in areas such as mental incapacity and succession planning.
